Dr. McCall to visit JCTC to launch advocacy campaign

Effort to raise awareness, support for community and technical colleges LOUISVILLE, KY -- After years of record enrollment but steady declines in state appropriations, Kentucky’s community and technical colleges are standing up to be counted. In a series of stops at Jefferson Community and Technical College on Thursday, Oct. 22, Dr. Michael McCall, president of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System, will launch JCTC’s portion of an aggressive grassroots campaign to raise awareness of and support for the state’s community and technical colleges.

Students, others invited to “Virtual Viewing Party” for NBC’s “Community”

At Greendale Community College, “You’re Already Accepted.” The fictional college is featured on NBC’s new Thursday night comedy “Community,” starring Chevy Chase and Joel McHale. McHale plays a student who organizes a study group, which becomes the focus of the show. The show premiers Sept. 17 at 9:30 p.m. on WAVE-TV.

Record rainfall leads to flooding on Downtown Campus

The record rainfall in Louisville Aug. 4 affected homes, schools and businesses throughout the metropolitan area. Jefferson Community and Technical College was no exception. Rain quickly flooded Broadway and neighboring streets, including Gray Street at the Downtown Campus. At one point the water was deep enough next to the Hartford Building to cover the loading dock doors, rushing quickly under the doors and through seams around them. It flowed into the basement of the Hartford Building, down the steps of the auditorium (006-008), into elevator shafts and into the bookstore. Several feet of water filled the auditorium.

Norton Healthcare, JCTC partner on Sonography program

$1 million commitment aids program When some think of sonography they may remember their time as expectant parents and those cherished first images, but sonography also plays a critical role in the diagnosis of a wide range cardiovascular, gynecologic and abdominal conditions. Like other healthcare fields, however, there is a shortage of certified technologists. Norton Healthcare and Jefferson Community and Technical College have teamed to help alleviate that shortage, combining educational programs to form an associate degree program in sonography, the only such program in Jefferson and surrounding counties.
